Ingredient Spotlight - Saccharin

Saccharin:
  • An artificial sweetener developed to replace sugar
  • Does not seem to be significantly detrimental to health but:
    • Mentioned as a very weak carcinogen (2)
    • The sweet taste of saccharin stimulates insulin release (5)
      • This in effect increases hunger 30 mins to an hour later
    • Saccharin increases food intake in lab rats (5)
